Cincinnati vs Campbell Preview

Tonight at 7 on Fox Sports Ohio, the 22nd ranked Cincinnati Bearcats play host to the Campbell Fighting Camels. Seriously, they are the Fighting Camels. This game is part of the Global Sports Tournament that Cincinnati is involved with. Cincinnati, Iowa State, North Carolina A&T and Campbell play a little round robin on their side of the bracket. I assume the same is happening on the Oregon/UNLV side, but I don't care to look it up.

While Campbell is not a very good basketball team, they lost to Northwestern State, they aren't quite as bad as North Carolina A&T. This may speak some to Iowa State as Campbell was within 8 at the half before losing by 20. I think UC will win in the 20-25 point range as well. I also think that the game could be close for a large part of the first half before the Cats figure things out. This isn't the best of tests as UC moves on to the first bit of meat in it's schedule with Iowa State, Oregon/UNLV and Alabama to follow, but it's not the worst. It'll give the chance for the Bearcats to play a team with some talent. Darren White seems legit.

5 Things I Want to See Tonight

Campbell is a decent offensive team. They are hitting nearly 50% from the field this year. That's 38th in the nation. You really want to see a complete effort at the defensive end. UC really hasn't had to try hard at defense the past couple of games. Not saying they weren't trying hard, they just held a team to 39 points, I'm just saying they have played teams that would have lost to McDonald's All America teams.

Do you know who the best rebounding team in the country is by way of raw rebounds? The Cincinnati Bearcats with 54.7 a game. Campbell is the 255th worst rebounding team on the defensive end. Let's see some more domination.

I want to see a big man step up and score at least 10 points. Jackson, Mbodj, Nyarsuk, Kelvin Gaines, anyone. The schedule is going to starting picking up. The time for dilly dallying is over. Time for domination. If none of these guys are an offensive threat tonight, they aren't going to be a threat in Vegas. Since UC plays 2 of them on the floor a high percentage of the time, that's not good because you are essentially playing 5 on 3 offensively.

Speaking of that, someone has to step in and make 3s besides Killa and Cash. Those two are more than able to handle the 3 point shooting, but if one of them is missing, there haven't been any threats. The offense is running smoothly without extra guys making 3s. This is a tune up though. Time to iron all these things out.

Free throw shooting. I want to see 80% when I look in the box score tomorrow. Anything less and I'll spend 400 words bitching about this tomorrow.

Cincinnati 96 Campbell 72
