G: Sean Kilpatrick - The sophomore guard is playing 34 minutes a game, with 15.8 points. He uses 21.6% of Cincinnati's possessions, with a 115.8 offensive rating. Kilpatrick is 21-46 on 2s and 23-61 on 3s. He's made and attempted the 2nd most in the BE. His percentage is 6th. Kilpatrick doesn't get to the line a lot, under 20 attempts per 100 FGAs, but he's 15-21 when he goes. He relies on the 3. Kilpatrick pulls 5 boards a game, getting 3.2% of the offensive boards and 13.5% of the defensive. He has 12 assists to 7 turnovers. Kilpatrick has 10 steals. He's battling a groin and hip injury that does look like it limited him against Syracuse. With nearly a full week off, I think he'll be more than ready to go. Even if he's not, he's going to play. He's a trooper.
G: Dion Dixon - Dixon is playing 36 minutes a game, with 13 points per. He's using 23.3% of the UC possessions, with a 101 offensive rating. Dixon is 25-64 on 2s and 12-50 on 3s. Neither one of those numbers are especially great. Dixon gets to the line at a 20.1 rate, which has fallen because he just isn't getting to the line lately. Dion is a good foul shooter at 78%. Leaving easy points on the court. Dixon is getting back to his tough offensive rebounding. 16 of his 27 rebounds are offensive. He's getting 5.5% of all offensive rebounds. Dixon has 25 assists to 7 turnovers. His 3.6 assist/turnover ratio is tops in the BE. Dixon is 11th with 16 steals. He's a generally solid defender. Not spectacular. He's good in the press. Dixon needs to manage his shot selection. I say it all the time because it's true.
G: Cashmere Wright - Cash plays 31 minutes, with 10.5 points a game. He uses 23% of the Bearcat possessions with a 98.9 offensive rating. He's 13-45 on 2s, but makes up somewhat for that by being 16-38 from deep. His 42.1% is 4th in the BE. 29% from 2 is really bad. Wright has only attempted 15 free throws in Big East action. Cash chips in on the defensive boards by pulling down 9.1%. He has 34 assists to 17 turnovers. Wright assists on 28% of the UC FGs. He has 19 steals, 2.4 a game with a 4.8 steal pct. All of those are 7th in the league. It seems like the game would completely open up for Cash if some of his drives were falling. He's become a good 3 point shooter. He has struggled a bit with turnovers against the top guards in the league. He's an above average thief.
F: Justin Jackson - JJ is playing 25 minutes a game, with 5 points. He is using 14.5% of the UC possessions, with a 98.9 offensive rating. He really crashed it against Syracuse. Jackson is 17-38 from the field. His attempts might start going up now that teams are playing him to pass instead of shoot. He's got to up the offensive game. He's 6-8 at the foul line. Jackson gets only 3.3 boards a game, which is not a lot from UC's Dennis Rodman. He's getting 6.9% of the offensive boards and 7.7% of the defensive. He has 13 assists to 10 turnovers. The turnovers took a climb because of Syracuse. Jackson has 8 steals and 8 blocks. He tries hard on defense. He also fouls a lot. He's getting 3.5 a game. That's 3rd in the league. He is 15th in the BE in plus minus at 40, and 14th in the Roland. He's been a key part to UC.
C: Yancy Gates - Gates is playing 29 minutes a game, with 11.3 points. He's using 19.6% of the UC possessions, a number that has risen. He has a 115.5 offensive rating. Gates is 32-62, 51.6%, 9th in the BE. He's hit 15-25 free throws. He's the only Bearcat to consistently get to the foul line. Gates is 9th in the BE with 66 rebounds, 3rd with 9.4 a game. He's 7th with 3.3 offensive boards a game. He gets 10.9% of the offensive boards. Gates is 5th in defensive boards with 6.1. His 24.6% is 2nd in the conference. He's been a rebounding monster lately. Gates has 4 assists to 5 turnovers. That's manageable. He has 3 steals and 4 blocks. Gates is getting called for 2.8 fouls a game and has fouled out of 1 contest. He's put up 3 straight double doubles and was a board away from 4. This is maybe the best stretch of his UC career.
Bench: JaQuon Parker - Parker is getting 22 minutes a game, with 7.7 points. He's using 17.8% of the UC possessions with a 114 offensive rating. Parker is 11-32 from 2, but 10-23 from 3. He's getting to the line at an ok rate, and hitting an ok 67% of them. His offensive game has really cooled off as we've hit the big part of Big East play. Parker was banging at the 4, now he is overmatched. He's down to 4 boards a game. He's getting 6% of the offensive boards and 13.8% of defensive. He has 7 assists to 3 turnovers. I hope Parker finds a way to produce. His plus minus is -17. That's really bad.
Jeremiah Davis - Davis is playing 10 minutes a game, with 2.9 points per. He's using 18.8% of the UC possessions, with a 87.1 offensive rating. he's really slumping from the field, 9-26 from the field, 3-12 from 3. He picks the occasional D board. He has 3 assists and 2 steals. His defense has got to get better.
Cheikh Mbodj - 9.5 minutes a game, 1.9 points. All of that comes in the first half. He's 5-13 from the field. He has 18 rebounds, 8 offensive. He's blocked 5 shots. He fouls a lot.
Ge'Lawn Guyn - 8.8 minutes a game, 1.4 points per. Only 3-10 from the field. Does have 4 defensive rebounds and 4 steals.
Jermaine Sanders - 5.8 minutes per, 1 BE point. He is in for his rebounding, 4, and his passing, 5 assists, as well as his defense. He's only in to spell Kilpatrick or Dixon in the rare times they are out of the game.

Record: 11-10, 3-5

G: Jerome Seagears - The freshman guard plays 25 minutes a game, with 7.1 points per. He's using 19.5% of possessions, with a 94.7 offensive rating. He is 9-32 from 2, but a solid 10-22 from 3. That's 45%. Seagears doesn't get to the line a ton, but he's 9-13 when he does. Seagears pulls in 6.4% of the offensive boards and 7.7% of the defensive. He has 16 assists to 14 turnovers. That's a high percentage of turnovers. Seagears isn't a great defender. On top of that, he averages 3 fouls a game. He's fouled out of 2. Rutgers is a lot better when he's on the floor. He's got the 12th best plus minus at 46, and the second best Roland in the league. When he's making shots, he gives the Scarlet Knights an extra dimension.
G: Eli Carter - The freshman sensation is playing 32 minutes a game, with 14.3 points. He uses 28.1% of the Knight possessions, with a 90.5 offensive rating. Carter has his 44% of his 2s and just 31% of his 3s. I say just because half of his shots in conference action have been 3s. Carter does get to the foul line at an ok pace. He's hit 21-31. Carter chips in on the defensive boards, getting 7.4%. He doesn't mix it up very much. He has 19 assists to 26 turnovers. That's very many. Carter is turning it over 22% of the time. He sort of makes up for it by getting 1.5 steals a game, 17th in the BE. That absolutely means that Carter takes chances going for them, and gets whistled as a result, over 2 fouls a game. We've seen him shoot Rutgers into wins and into losses. He's going to shoot.
G: Dane Miller - Dane Miller is playing 27 minutes a game, with 6 points. His offense has been a steady decline the past 3 years. Miller uses 17.1% of the RU possessions with an 89.6 offensive rating. He is 16-32 on 2s and 2-10 on 3s. Curbing the 3 point shot has really helped his shooting percentage. Miller is getting to the line at a decent rate, and has gone 10-15. Miller rebounds pretty well. He's getting 6.9 a game. Dane pulls in 9.3% of offensive boards and 19.6% of defensive, which is 8th in the BE. He has 16 assists to 19 turnovers. He's turning it over 30% of the time. Miller was a good shot blocker last year, and has been better so far this year. He's 5th in the BE with 15 and 4th with a 7.8% block pct. He's listed as a guard, but plays multiple positions. Defense is his game.
F: Gilvydas Biruta - Gil is playing 23.5 minutes a game, with 7.6 points. He uses 25.1% of the Rutgers possessions with a 83.6 offensive rating. That's terrible. Biruta is just 21-57 from the field, 37%. He's getting to the line a lot. He's struggled from there too, 17-29. For comparison, Biruta his 54.5% and made 76% of his FTs in BE play last season. Quite the big drop off. That's also one of the reasons Rutgers has been struggling lately. Biruta pulls in 4.5 boards a game, 7.9% of offensive, 14.4% of defensive. He has 14 assists to 18 turnovers. He's turning the ball over 23% of the time. Biruta has a knack for getting steals. He doesn't block shots. Biruta only plays 23 minutes in large part because he's a fouling machine. His 3.25 fouls a game are 6th in the conference. Rutgers plays better with him on the floor. The key is keep him off.
C: Derrick Randall - The freshman big is playing 17 minutes a game, with 4.8 points per. He's using 12% of the RU possessions with a 123.3 offensive rating. Randall is 15-21 from the field. He gets fouled a lot, making 8 of 14. Randall uses offensive rebounds to get easy shots. 10 of his 22 boards have been offensive. He has 1 assist to 5 turnovers. Randall has 5 steals and 5 blocks. He gets a lot of whistles blown against him, 3 a game. Randall is a starter in name only, but he has the makings of one of those guys who's going to be a solid Big East center in a couple of years.
Bench: Myles Mack - The highly touted freshman is playing 26 minutes a game, with 9.6 points. He's using 19.4% of the Knight possessions, with a 106.9 offensive rating. He's 13-30 from 2 and 12-32 from 3. Mack uses his driving skills to get to the foul line, where he has made 15-20. He's more content shooting the 3 though. Mack gets 10.6% of the defensive rebounds. He has just 1 offensive board. Mack has 17 assists to 11 turnovers. He assists on 17.8% of the FGs while on the floor. Mack has 10 steals, 25th in the BE. Mack gives Rutgers a spark off the bench. He's pretty much a starter.
Mike Poole - Poole is playing 21 minutes a game, with 5 points. He uses 14.6% of possessions with a 98.3 offensive rating. He's 18-44 from the field, which is 41%. He rarely gets to the foul line, 4 attempts. He will occasionally step out for a 3 attempt. Getting your shots inside the arc and not getting any fouls is a tough thing to do, but Poole does it. He's a solid rebounder, pulling in 5.3% of the offensive boards and 13% of the defensive. Poole has 9 assists to 5 turnovers. He's a good defender. Poole has 10 steals. He has a steal pct of 3.5, 15th in the BE.
Austin Johnson - Johnson is getting 15 minutes a game, with 5.1 points. He's using 18% of the RU possessions with a 100.3 offensive rating. Johnson has been pretty unstoppable inside going 19-33. He is 3-6 at the foul line, which means he's not good at them and doesn't get fouled much. 5 of the 12 Johnson boards have been offensive. He has 4 assists to 8 turnovers. Johnson fouls a lot for his short time in games, 3.25 per. That's 6th highest in the BE.
Malick Kone - Kone played in the first 5 conference games, but sat out the last 3. I had his page already opened, so I wrote about him even though he doesn't do anything.
Paw Points
Prediction
I can't shake the feeling that this has ugly written all over it. Rutgers plays grind it out hoops. Except against West Virginia. UC has played some ugly road games over the years. Weird start time, weird opponent, I have a weird feeling. But it's not a losing feeling.
