Last season saw a rise in playing time for Dempsey as part of the defensive line rotation. He had 11 tackles, 7 solo. He chipped in on a tackle in 9 of the 12 games he played though. Dempsey recorded a tackle for loss against Louisville. He had his first hurry against Syracuse. The biggest play Dempsey made last season was blocking the extra point after Duke's first touchdown in the Belk Bowl.
