A Look at Bench Efficiency

You might not have noticed, but Cincinnati has had a little bit of trouble scoring lately. UC has averaged 56 points over the last 3 games. It's kind of surprising that they are 2-1 over that span. A large reason why is that the Bearcats have gotten no bench production. Some of this comes with the tightened rotation. Some comes because guys are missing shots Let's look at the bench scoring in every game this season to find out the whole story.

There are going to be a couple of these lists. One of the non-conference, one for conference play. The 12 conference games make for a good match for this comparison. At the bottom the entire season numbers will be there. The conference opponents UC has played twice will have a 1 or 2 by their name.

There are some factors in play. You have the Lawrence injury, which had a bigger effect on rebounding than it did anything else. Lawrence hasn't really scored a lot. The free throw percentage is probably better as a result of him not taking so many.

The shorter rotation and the lack of big bench minutes is another one, and the main one. But, who would blame Mick for leaning on the bench less when they aren't producing? The lack of production from Sanders and especially Caupain lately hasn't been conducive to playing time. Hopefully the rest and time off will allow them to rebalance themselves. I don't want to be Mr. Gloom and Doom, but Cincinnati isn't going as far as we want in March if Troy and Sanders don't produce.
